Our Accessibility Action Plan for 2025-2028 outlines actionable steps to identify, remove and prevent barriers, ensuring equitable access to education and university life.

Framework guiding our work

The Accessibility Action Plan is grounded in the principles of the Accessible British Columbia Act, which include:

These principles guide TRU’s approach to accessibility and are reflected in all aspects of the plan.

Highlights

TRU has identified six focus areas to enhance accessibility across the institution: education, transportation, information and communication, built environment, delivery of services and employment.

Education: Enhancing access to technology, course materials, and assessments to ensure equity in learning experiences.

Transportation: Improving pathways between buildings, accessible parking, and transit stops to better serve individuals with diverse abilities.

Information and communication: Ensuring delivery methods support diverse needs, including accessible print and digital materials.

Built environment: Improving physical spaces, such as ramps, ergonomic workstations, and accessible washrooms.

Delivery of services: Integrating accessibility into all services, from student support to faculty resources.

Employment: Streamlining accommodation processes to foster an inclusive workplace.

Accessibility committee

TRU’s Accessibility Advisory Committee was established in 2023 to:

  • Identify barriers within the institution.
  • Advise on removing and preventing barriers.

The committee includes faculty, staff, students and Indigenous representation, ensuring diverse perspectives guide TRU’s accessibility initiatives.

Key findings from the Accessibility Action Plan

  • Nearly 50% of survey respondents reported experiencing or witnessing barriers in education, transportation, and services.
